Laurie Halse Anderson
On January 17, 2014 our 8th, 9th and 10th graders got to hear Laurie Halse Anderson, who was on tour promoting her newest novel, The Impossible Knife of Memory. Lily M. was chosen to introduce Ms. Anderson and she did a fabulous job.
Gordon Korman, Elizabeth Wein, and Gene Luen Yang
Galloway hosted 3 authors early in the 2013 school year. All were sent to us courtesy of The Little Shop of Stories. Fourth through sixth graders met with Gordon Korman, author of Schooled and The Hypnotists. Ninth and tenth graders had back to back presentations from Elizabeth Wein (Code Name Verity) and Gene Yang (American Born Chinese).
Ridley Pearson and Sharon Draper
We had two authors on May 3, 2012. First Sharon Draper spoke to our fifth graders about her book, Out of My Mind. Then Ridley Pearson talked to sixth graders about his Kingdom Keepers series. Both authors were great with kids and answered many student questions.
Galloway 6th graders met Norton Juster, author of The Phantom Tollbooth, in December, 2011. He was accompanied with children's literature critic and author Leonard Marcus. They are shown here with Mr. Gerl, the entire 6th grade, and Ms. Starkman.
Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler
Galloway 8th and 9th graders hosted Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler on January 20, 2012. They discussed how they collaborated to write The Future of Us.
Galloway 8th graders read and study Unwind by Neal Shusterman each year. They have skyped with him twice and hosted him in person in May of 2011
Ridley Pearson came to Galloway in 2011 to introduce 6th graders to his Kingdom Keepers series of books.
Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie is a favorite book of Galloway 5th and 6th graders, and author Jordan Sonnenblick has skyped with our students twice.
Chris Moriarity and
Ms. Chapman's 6th graders met Chris Moriarty and Mark Edward Geyer, author and illustrator of The Inquisitor's Apprentice in the fall of 2011.
